As part of efforts to ensure adequate security and to check kidnapping in the country, a member of House of Representatives, Alhaji Yakub Balogun, has asked the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, to direct all telecommunications service providers to stop all local calls made under the guise of ‘hidden numbers’.
Balogun, representing Lagos Island Federal Constituency II in the House of Representatives, in a motion, said the telecommunication operators can put a check to hidden numbers calls through activation of Caller Line Identification System, CLIS.
He said cases of hidden number calls, used by people to perpetrate all manner of atrocities, was alien to the country until the advent of GSM.
Balogun explained that calls from hidden numbers were dangerous and capable of undermining security in the country, adding that such exercise could make nonsense of the recent registration exercise of GSM lines.
