30 HIV Lovers wed in Jigawa State


Thirty persons living with HIV and AIDS have entered into marriage contract under the couple matchmaking scheme initiated by the Jigawa Action Committee on AIDS.
The Executive Secretary of the Agency, Dr. Bashir Ahmad, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Dutse on Wednesday that the measure was to control the scourge in the state.
Ahmad said the agency, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria, had so far trained 50 HIV positive women on various trades.

Odumosu comes last in 400m women’s Olympic hurdles Final

Nigeria’s Ajoke Odumosu failed to ignite the country’s hope for a medal, as she came eighth in the 400m hurdles on Wednesday night.

She followed the footsteps of Blessing Okagbare who gave so much hope in the heats but placed last in the 100m final following 'injury'.The 2010 Commonwealth gold medallist who is also the current African champion in her event, finished eighth in the final after a difficult start to the race, cruising home in 55.31 seconds. Her personal-best is 54.40.

hitman in Dewani honeymoon murder gets 25 years

One of the South African hitmen, Mziwamadoda Qwabe (pictured above on the right), accused of killing honeymooner Anni Dewani was this morning sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to her murder.

28 year old Anni Dewani (pictured above with her husband) was shot and killed after the taxi she and her husband were travelling in was hijacked on the outskirts of Cape Town on November 13, 2010 while on their honeymoon. Her British husband Shrien Dewani is accused of masterminding the killing in a murder set up to look like a botched carjacking. He allegedly hired three men to kill Anni. He says he's not guilty.
South Africa is still awaiting his extradition. Qwabe is the second of three South African suspects to be jailed. In 2010 another man turned state witness and implicated Dewani in plotting to kill his new bride. He was sentenced to 18 years

Suspects That Killed Over 24 Church Member in Kogi arrested


The police claimed on Wednesday to have arrested three suspects in connection with the Monday and Tuesday gun attacks in Okene, Kogi State, in which a total of 24 persons, including two soldiers, were killed.

Kogi State Police Command, yesterday, announced that it had arrested the leader of the gang at Ibillo, EdoState.

Kidnappers Seize Delta’s Newest Judge

Kidnappers struck again in Delta State, Tuesday, abducting a newly-appointed judge of the Delta State High Court, Justice Marcel Okoh.
Justice Okoh, a former Director General of Public Prosecution, DPP, in the state, was kidnapped by armed men at Oria-Abraka in Ethiope –East Local Government Area of the state. Okoh had been on his way to the oil city of Warri.

Lawan Stopped at Airport from Travelling Abroad


The suspended Chairman of the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee on the Monitoring of the Fuel Subsidy regime, Hon. Farouk Lawan, was Tuesday night barred from travelling out of the country at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Lawan, who is currently under investigation for collecting $500,000 from the Chairman, Zenon Petroleum & Gas Ltd, Mr. Femi Otedola, to doctor the report of the House ad hoc committee, was scheduled to board an Emirates Airline flight en route to Saudi Arabia to perform the lesser Hajj when he was stopped by operatives of the State Security Service (SSS) at the airport and prevented from leaving the country.

Woman Gives Birth In A Latrine

A middle-aged woman, Mrs. Chinwe Amoloku, on Sunday [Aug 5] gave birth to a baby in a latrine at Umusan Ogbe, Kwale, Delta State.
Amoloku, who it was learnt, had no inkling that she was due for delivery, had visited the convenience in the evening when she gave birth without the help of a birth attendant.
 n the process, the baby reportedly fell into the pit toilet.

7 Cameroon athletes go missing from Olympics Games

 
Seven Cameroonian athletes who participated in the 2012 London Olympic Games have disappeared from the Olympic Village, this is according to the mission head.

The athletes, five boxers, a swimmer and a footballer, (all pictured above) packed their personal belongings and disappeared when no one was looking. The woman disappeared first, and the others followed. Looking for greener pastures I guess.

Asari Dokubo threatens to bomb Hausa's in Niger/Delta

What the former Ijaw Youth Council president and founder of Niger Delta People's Volunteer Force said while addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday:
The arrogance of B/H is un-islamic. The type of bomb they are using is small small pikin bomb. If we begin, nobody will stay in Abuja. 
We don’t manufacture bomb but we buy bombs & dynamites. I started armed struggle in the N/Delta. It's because of GEJ that we at quiet. Soon, we will not be able to guarantee our patience any more. If Ijaw people should retaliate, every household in the North will cry. It is the North that needs peace more than us.

Gov of Kogi in full body armour as he visits DLBC victims

 
 The governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, wore full body Armour while visiting injured members of the Deeper Life Bible Church in hospital yesterday.

At least 34 people were killed, including 16 children, on Monday night when suspected Boko Haram members opened fire at worshipers at the Deeper Life Church in Okene, Kogi State.

North ‘ll cause another Nigerian Civil War – Asari


Former President of Ijaw Youth Congress, IYC, and leader of Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, NDPVF, Alhaji Dokubo Asari, has said that those scheming to remove President Goodluck Jonathan from office were fanning the embers of war in Nigeria.
He also accused Northern leaders of creating the atmosphere of insecurity in the country.
Asari, who addressed newsmen in Abuja, yesterday, recalled that the Isa Kaita, who he said represented a collection of Northern oligarchy, had prior to 2011 general elections, declared that they will make Nigeria ungovernable for Jonathan should he eventually emerged as President, pointing out that incessant bombings and killings credited to the North-based Boko Haram was the manifestation of the threat by Kaita.

Mr Ayinla Kangu of Pakata Area in Ilorin on Monday asked an Ilorin Area Court to dissolve his five-year-old marriage to Raliatu Ologede, over alleged impatience and domineering attitude.
The complainant cited an instance when his wife slapped him for his inability to pay their child’s school fees.

Woman Made to carry the corpse of a boy that she killed

The woman was stripped naked and made to carry the corpse of the dead boy around her area. The sad incident happened on Sunday on Amosu Street, Ijegun, in Lagos.

The woman known locally as Iya Anu beat her 16 year old foster son, Seubow, to death for allegedly stealing N50. Seybow was Iya Anu's husband's nephew.

40-foot container crushes car; kills three


The man you see in the photo above, plus two others in a Toyota Avalon car with registration number SQ 32 AAA, were killed around 7pm on Friday August 3rd on the Anthony Bridge, Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, after a truck hauling a 40-foot container suddenly slipped off the flat-bed and fell on their car
The driver of the Toyota and another man in the car died instantly, but not the one in the photo. He called for help for over an hour but the people around had no means to lift the container off the car. Even LASEMA couldn't help because the container was too heavy. The man eventually died.
Finally, four hours after the accident, a crane was brought to lift the container off the mangled car. The bodies of the three men were taken to Gbagada General Hospital.

Gunmen kill 20 at Deeper Life Church during service



A gang of gunmen yesterday invaded the Deeper Life Bible Church in Okene, Kogi state and killed no fewer than 16 christian worshippers, with scores of others seriously wounded.

NigerianEye gathered that the gunmen invaded the church while members were in the Monday evening bible study service, blocked all exit doors in the church auditorium and opened rains of hot bullets on them.
