They also urged the Federal Government to stop treating the group with kid gloves.
This was contained in a communiqué signed by over 30 ex-militant leaders after an emergency meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
The ex-militants recalled that the FG brought its entire might on Niger Delta communities in the fight against militancy, wondering why the same had not been applied to Boko Haram insurgency in the North.
It read in part, "Enough is enough! The government must unmask and go after the sponsors of Boko Haram, who we believe are wicked and evil-minded Nigerians collaborating with foreigners.
"Boko Haram must forthwith stop its senseless and mindless killings and suicide bombings in the North.
"The predilection for and selective attacks on churches and christians can no longer be tolerated by well-meaning Nigerians.
"It is becoming very clear that Boko Haram is not only anti-Christians but also political, with the discernible agenda of making Nigeria ungovernable for President Goodluck Jonathan.
"The unfortunate import of this is that by 2019, when President Jonathan is expected to end his constitutionally guaranteed tenure, whoever succeeds him might contend with similar insurrection from another section of the country.
"The Federal Government must forcibly stop this strange and dangerously ominous trend in our polity.
"We recall how the Nigerian government deployed troops in the Niger Delta, which decimated Odi, Ayakoromo, Gbaramatu Kingdom and other communities in its alleged bid to combat militancy."
"It is however strange to note that the government has treated the Boko Haram insurgency with kid gloves."
