No fewer than Seven soldiers and a suicide bomber may have died in an ambush by suspected Boko Haram gunmen on a military patrol in the Yobe State capital, Damaturu, on Sunday.
Some residential properties in Shagari Low Cost Housing Estate in Damaturu, Yobe State were also destroyed in the attack, which occurred when the suicide bomber detonated explosives hidden in a parked car.
Instead of subjecting his vehicle to a compulsory search by the patrol team, the bomber drove off and this led to a chase by the JTF officers.

Witnesses said the explosion was part of a number of coordinated attacks unleashed on Damaturu by suspected Boko Haram militants.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Egbuniwe, confirmed the attacks to newsmen on Sunday.
He, however, declined to give a figure of the casualties.
Boko Haram in a new video released on Saturday slammed United States President Barack Obama for declaring three of the deadly group’s leaders terrorists.
The group also called on President Goodluck Jonathan to convert to Islam.
