Nigerian male sprinters crash out of Olimpic 100m Heat

A day after Female sprinters put a smile on the face of Nigerians in the Olympics 100m qualifiers, Nigerian male entries, Obinna Metu, Peter Emelieze and Ogho-Oghene Omano Egwero, crashed out in the heats of the 100m race.
Egwero was the first to take to the track in Heat 4 and placed 6th in a time of 10.38s.The heat was won by Olympic champion and world record holder, Usain Bolt in 10.09s. Metu who ran in  lane 5 in Heat 5, placed 5th with a slightly better time of 10.35.

Stevie Wonder To Divorce After 11yrs

Stevie Wonder has filed for divorce from his wife of 11 year years, designer Kai Millard Morris, citing irreconcilable differences

In his petition Stevie says he and Kai have been separated since 2009 and is asking for joint custody of their two sons.

The father of seven married Kai in 2001. It was his second marriage. He was previously married to Motown singer, Syreeta Wright from 1970 until 1972.

The most controversial wedding gift in recent years has taken a new turn as Lagos big boy, Larry Onuegbu reacts to the accusation that he sold a Porsche Cayenne SUV 2009 model at the price of a 2012 model to Dumebi Kachukwu, who then gave it to Naeto C as wedding gift.

According to reports, Dumebi was said to have found out that the car was not brand new, and it also wasn't the model he had requested and paid for. The car is now a subject of police investigation, and in police custody.

Police Set to Prosecute Lawan Over U.S.$62 Million Bribe

The police are finalising plans to arraign the suspended Chairman, House of Representatives Ad hoc Committee on the Monitoring of the Fuel Subsidy regime, Hon. Farouk Lawan, for allegedly taking a bribe, THISDAY has learnt.

The planned arraignment, which could take place next week, follows the conclusion of investigation into the bribe-for-clearance scandal in which Lawan was purported to have collected $500,000 from the Chairman, Zenon Petroleum and Gas Ltd, Mr. Femi Otedola, to doctor the report of the ad hoc committee.

Nigeria's Blessing Okagbare Keeps Olimpic Golds hopes Alife

Nigerian athlete Blessing Okagbare recast herself as a medal favorite in the Olympic 100 after setting a personal best 10.93 seconds to win her first-round heat in London.

That time was the second-fastest of the round behind America's Carmelita Jeter's 10.83 and shaved .03 seconds off her previous personal best set earlier this year. The semifinals and Finals to folllow on Saturday.  Okagbare did that despite a conservative start that had her one of the last runners out of the blocks in the fourth of seven heats. She ran down America's Tianna Madison (10.97) by the midpoint as those two were more than a quarter of a second ahead of anyone else in the heat.

43 ex-militants deported from Trinidad and Tobago, as 57 graduate

28 out of the 100 ex-Niger Delta militants registered for training at the National Energy Skills Centre in Trinidad and Tobago were reportedly deported for offenses against “national interest” while 15 dropped on health grounds, it was revealed on Thursday.

However, 57 who participated in the Niger Delta Amnesty Programme graduated on Wednesday.

Out of the number, 10 were awarded scholarships for their master’s degrees at the Caribbean University for their exemplary performance. The awards were said to be the first since the establishment of the institution 64 years ago.

Juliana, the mother of 21-year-old Tolu Esuola, who was found burnt to death on her bed in Oyo, Oyo State, on July 24, has said that Kunle, the suspect arrested in connection with the incident, was seen in the house on the fateful day by her neighbours.

Emir of Fika escapes death in bomb attack

The Emir of Fika, Yobe State, was almost killed today when a suicide bomber targeted the Potiskum Central where he went for Friday prayers.

Dr Muhammed Idrissa escaped unharmed after the Emir's police orderly stopped a young man who was trying to get too close to the emir. The young man had explosives trapped to his body.

Unfortunately the police orderly wasn't so lucky. He died with the suicide bomber when the bomb eventually exploded. Many others were also injured in the incident.

40 yrs old Man arrested for bein with a goat


A 40-year-old man, Victor Nnanna Onyemaechi from Amibo village in Umuahia South Council of Abia State was a while ago arrested by the state’s police command for allegedly bein with a neighbour’s goat. It was learnt that the man was tied to the goat and paraded round the village before he was handed over to the police by the traditional ruler of Amibo community.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Udevioti Ezekiel, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspects has been charged to court under Section 214 Subsection 2 of the Criminal Code.

Gunmen bombs police station,killing many in Gombe

KANO (AFP) – Gunmen suspected to be members of Islamist Boko Haram sect late Wednesday launched simultaneous attacks on two police posts in the northern city of Gombe killing a number of people, residents said.
The attackers, who came around 8.30 pm (1930 GMT), threw explosives at a police post in central Gombe and opened fire on the policemen, a resident said.

Chinese diver Wu Minxia's celebrations at winning a third Olympic gold medal were cut short after her family revealed the details of a devastating secret they had kept for several years.
Wu's parents decided to withhold news of both the death of her grandparents and of her mother's long battle with breast cancer until after she won the 3-meter springboard in London so as to not interfere with her diving career.
"It was essential to tell this white lie," said her father Wu Yuming.

KANO (AFP) – An explosive device was found on Tuesday in lecture hall at a university in northern city just before students arrived for an examination, an official said.

Policeman goes berserk, shoots and kills two colleagues

A policeman at the Michika divisional headquarters in Adamawa was on Tuesday shot dead after shooting two of his colleagues who are now receiving treatment in the hospital, police spokesman Muhammed Ibrahim said.
An eye witness had told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Michika that the incident occurred around 7 am on Tuesday when the policeman, identified as Abba Gana, opened fire on his colleagues.

Bank driver arrested with 19 ATM cards,over N652,000

A bank driver has been arrested by the police in Lagos for alleged stealing.
Dare Oladujoye was held for being in possession of 19 Guaranty Trust Bank (GTB) ATM cards and N652,000.Lagos Commissioner of Police Umar Manko said the suspect withdrew the money from an ATM machine.
He was using the cards to withdraw money from an ATM machine at Ogba branch of the GTB when a security guard raised the alarm.

Multiple blasts hit two Sokoto police stations

Multiple bomb blasts hit two police stations in separate parts of Sokoto yestherday moring. The attacks, according to police authorities, were carried out by suicide bombers suspected to be members of Boko Haram.

The first attack was targeted at the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 10, Sokoto, killing a police officer and injuring several policemen on duty. A second blast hit a police station located at Angwar Rago area of the state, killing the bomber and a lady hair dresser who was around the area when the bombs in the Volkswagen Golf salon car the suicide bomber was driving exploded.

Trafficking: JTF intercepts vehicles with 103 children


Members of the Joint Task Force (JTF) stationed in Lokoja, Kogi, on Sunday intercepted 20 vehicles conveying more than 103 children, suspected to have been trafficked.
The JTF Commander, Lt-Col. Gabriel Olorunyomi, made this known to newsmen in Lokoja on Sunday.
He said that his men became curious when they discovered that the occupants of the vehicles were mostly children, accompanied by some men and women.

University Girl Commits Suicide Over Lost School Fees




Tragedy struck in Umuorii in Owerri North Local Government Area of Imo State penultimate week when a second year female student of a tertiary institution in the state, simply known as Blessing, killed herself after misplacing her school fees.
A family source who do not want his name in print told a source that Blessing after struggling to raise the sum of N30, 000 for her school fees could not find where she kept it.

REPORTS:Parents in Makurdi Sales their kids for N4,000


REPORTS have indicated that parents in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, were involved in the sale of their children to human traffickers at the sum of N4,000 or N5,000 per ward.

This was revealed when the Quick Response Group Team of the Nigerian Army in Lokoja arrested one human trafficking suspect, Mr. Sunday Agbo, from Benue state.

13 die on Benin-Ore road


No fewer than 13 passengers died in a motor accident on the Benin-Ore road, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) confirmed on Sunday.


In a statement issued by Mr Bisi Kazeem, Deputy Corps Public Education Officer, the commission stated that the accident happened at kilometre 53, before Ohosun town, zone 5.12 toll gate unit command in Edo State at 7.45 a.m on Sunday.

6 people die as cult members clash in UNIBEN

Six people have died, including a popular UNIBEN graduate, Nosa Ebohon aka Biggie, following a cult war supposedly between Eiye Fraternity and Black Axe members of the school.

Nigerian basketball team win first Olympic game

The Nigerian basketball team this morning won their first game at the 2012 London Olympics, making the basketball team the first in Nigerian sporting history to win a basketball match at the Olympics.

They beat Tunisia 60-56 and need just one more win to get through to the next round. Go team Nigeria!
