U.S seizes Alamieyeseigha’s $401,931 loot


The United States Department of Justice on Thursday successfully executed a forfeiture order on the sum of $401,931 (60 Million Naira) seized from a Fidelity Brokerage Services LLC account in Massachusetts owned by a former governor of Bayelsa State, Cheif Diepreye Alamieyeseigha.
The forfeiture was the first victory for a fledgling Justice Department initiative dedicated to seeking out assets in the U.S linked to high-level foreign corruption.

Driver kills NYSC member in Ondo

 


The Batch ‘B’ National Youth Service Corps members currently serving in Akure, the Ondo State capital, wept uncontrollably on Thursday when a motorist hit and killed one of them.The deceased, Mr. Olaniyan Tosin Michael, with call up number 0D/11C/0301, was on his way to the venue of the weekly Community Development Service when the incident happened.

My name is Tolani Alvin Osungade, and this is what really happened between Dj Tee and I...... Firstly, the video shoot was suppose to start @ 10am and I was there to support my friend "malcoholic" the owner of the video shoot. He (malcoholic) told to me invite friends (video girls and guys) which I did. The video shoot did not start early because it rained and the location was being cleaned. And due to the fact that the shoot didn't start on time, people were having refreshments, guys were drinking (including dj tee and his crew). As this was going on, comments were going round that dj tee just insulted some girls I don't know due to them asking for payment to be in the video and i also heard dj tee was going to call his own people to come and replace them.

JTF arrests most wanted ex-militant ‘Gen. Cairo’


The Joint Military Task Force (JTF) in the Niger Delta region, Operation Pulo Shield, has arrested a most wanted ex-militant suspected to be behind the spate of Pipeline bombings and vandalization in the region.

Known as Seiyifa Gbereke, (Alias General Cairo), he was arrested in Yenagoa after the task force intelligence team tricked him out from his hideout in Warri.
Lt.Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, the JTF Media Coordinator who paraded Gbereke before journalists at the JTF Headquarters in Yenagoa, Friday, told journalists that the ex-militant had been on the wanted list for about four months before he was finally arrested in Yenagoa.

Nigeria may break up if Boko Haram is not checked - Oyedepo

The Chancellor Covenant University (CU), Otta, Ogun State, Dr. David Oyedepo, has called for a complete overhaul of the nation’s security system against those he called ‘religious bigots’ scheming to Islamise Nigeria through repeated attacks on churches.
 
Oyedepo also urged the Federal Government to be more committed to the insecurity problem, failure of which he noted, may lead to disintegration.
“I want to believe that what we have on our hands today is an islamisiation agenda being propagated and sponsored by some religious bigots who are poised for war, and if government does not decisively stem down this tide, Nigeria may cease to be a nation.”

Snoop Dogg 'detained at Norway airport after police discover 8 grams of marijuana'

Snoop Dogg was detained in Norway after entering the country with marijuana and a large amount of cash, according to reports.

The rapper, 40, allegedly arrived Kjevic Airport in Kristiansand with around eight grams of the drug which was detected by a sniffer-dog.
A customs officer also said the artist was carrying more cash than is legally allowed and was subsequently fined 52,000 kroner ($8,600) for the violations.

Pandemonium as diver dies on rescue mission


PANDEMONIUM broke out in Ughelli, Delta State on Thursday, following attempts to recover the body of a diver who drowned in the Ughelli river while on a rescue operation of a dredger that sank in the river.
The dredger said to be owned by a contractor working for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) sank in the river on Monday around the bridge at the Amekpa junction while executing a project to open up the river.

How Oshiomhole’s convoy was attacked – Police



The Edo State Police Command said yesterday that it has commenced investigation into the attack on the convoy of Governor Adams Oshiomhole Thursday night and the burning of the Police post by youths alleged to be students of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Usen.
However, the State Government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Mr Louis Odion, alleged thugs loyal to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state opened fire on the Governor’s convoy at about 6pm, shortly after he paid a visit to the Onogie of Usen, His Royal Highness Oluogbe 11,at his palace.

Gunmen storm Adamawa, 5 Policemen Killed


Unidentified gunmen today attacked Gulak town, in of Madagali local area of Adamawa State, killing 5 Policemen.

The five policemen were attacked at their duty post in the early hours of Friday in Gulak, which is the home town of the special adviser to President Goodluck Jonathan on political matters, Ahmadu Ali Gulak.

Reports from Madagali, a border local government between Adamawa and Borno states indicated that the gunmen numbering about 30, over powered the Madagali Police Divisional headquarters and carted away some arms before setting the station ablaze.
The assailants killed the three policemen on duty.

World's First Genetically-modified "Designer" Babies Born In The U.S

The disclosure that 30 healthy babies were born after a series of experiments in the United States provoked another furious debate about ethics.

DJ TEE Allegedly Stabs Upcoming Artist on shoot set


Popular video director, DJ Tee and an upcoming act, have taken their accusations and counter-accusations to Twitter. DJ Tee was accused of stabbing Tolani Alvin Osungade after a scuffle broke out on the set of a shoot.
DJ Tee had tweeted earlier from his handle, @adetokunbodjtee; “Bro, I did not stab you…….why are people saying I picked up a bottle & stabbed you with it on your face,” in reaction to the stories.

But Alvin Osungade (@Sojiboi_We), reacted saying: “I was stabbed by DJ tee himself, and I am currently in a critical state,He shuld stop makin up stories. And I wasn’t even in a fyt with him.”

I collected money not bribe – Farouk Lawan



Details of the testimonies of the suspended Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Monitoring of Subsidy Regime, Mr. Farouk Lawan, showed that he admitted taking “money” and “not a bribe” from oil businessman, Mr. Femi Otedola.
Lawan had appeared before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges on Thursday.
The committee, which is investigating the $620,000 bribery allegation, is headed by Mr. Gambo Musa.

Train derails in Abeokuta, 300 Passengers escape death

 

Over three hundred passengers on Wednesday night escaped death when a 12-coach Lagos-bound train rammed into a Nissan Cabstar pick-up at Odo-Eran, Lafenwa area of Abeokuta, Ogun State.
The collision, which occurred at 9am, saved the train from plunging into a gully created by flood which had washed away part of the rail track.

Jonathan Says Nigeria Power Supply Will Be Among the Best 20 in the world By 2020



President Goodluck Jonathan has said that power supply in Nigeria will be among the best 20 in the world in the next eight years.

In 2011, the actor was sued by an Abuja based lady, Habiba Abubakar, for allegedly defrauding her of N15million. The case went to court and Jim Iyke was charged with criminal breach of trust, criminal force, assault, cheating and criminal misappropriation.

But the case was this week thrown out by the court for lack of evidence, clearing Jim Iyke of any liability. Jim and Habiba will now resolve their issues out of court.

7 Pupils Die In Flood

Seven pupils have lost their lives in a flood caused by a heavy downpour that lasted for over three hours yesterday.
The sad incident occurred at the Living Foundation Nursery And Primary School, Tudun Kwari, Lafia.
According to an eye witness, who craved anonymity, the pupils who were within the ages of 7 to 12 were in their classes when the building collapsed on them due to the heavy downpour.
She added that after the building collapsed, the pupils were pulled into the flood and in the process about seven of them drowned.

N96m bribery scandal probe hits dead end


Police investigators are in a dilemma over the whereabouts of the N96m bribe received by the Chairman of the House of Representatives ad hoc committee on fuel subsidy, Mr. Farouk Lawan, from the Chairman of Zenon Oil and Gas, Mr. Femi Otedola.
Sources gathered in Abuja that Lawan, who appeared at the Force Headquarters on Wednesday, insisted that he gave the money to the Chairman, Committee on Narcotics and Anti-corruption, Adams Jagaba.

David Erhabor, husband of a former commissioner in Edo State, Florence Igbinigie-Erhabor, on Wednesday, told a Benin High Court, that his wife of 15 years once came home without putting on pant.
He said, “There was a day she came back home drunk and without a pant on her. She was in the habit of keeping late nights.”

21 killed as gunmen, JTF clash in Kano, Yobe


No fewer than 17 Islamist militants were killed, yesterday, in Kano after two days of sustained exchange of fire between the militants and security agents. Four others were also reportedly killed in Damaturu, Yobe State capital. It was gathered that three undergraduates were among those arrested by security agents.
The gunmen had reportedly launched an operation, attacking seven targets with explosives and assault rifles in Kano during the attack that lasted about 12 hours.

Fighting corruption is not a one-night affair - Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said the issue of corruption in Nigeria is not one that can be solved over-night.

The retired general, who is now an adviser to a private equity firm, New World Capital, said this during an interview with The Guardian of London in the United Kingdom recently.

Man Kidnaps his Brother and demanded N4m Ransom


The suspect, who is a 27-year old man named, Okafor Chukwujekwu has been arrested by the police in Lagos state, Southwest Nigeria, for allegedly kidnapping his blood brother, Cosmos Chukwujekwu and demanding ransom for his release.


The victim, who is his elder brother, was kidnapped at Festac Town, Lagos and taken to an unknown place where he was made to pay N4 million ransom before he was released.

Okafor was arrested along with his accomplice, Malik Sherif, 31, and charged before the Apapa Magistrate’s with kidnapping.

JAMB bars 262 institutions from admitting students

 
THE JOINT Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB Tuesday said it had barred 262 institutions of higher learning from participating in next year’s admission exercise for non-compliance with admission guidelines.


JAMB Registrar, Professor Dibu Ojerinde who spoke at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Abia state, at the opening ceremony of the 3rd Combined Policy Committee meeting on Admission to degrees, National Diploma, NEC and National Innovation Diploma-Awarding institutions for 2012/2013, however, said 14 of the institutions affected had complied with the laid down guidelines.

President Jonathan contemplating birth control law in Nigeria




Government is contemplating a legislation to control population growth, President Goodluck Jonathan said yesterday.

Dr. Jonathan said although the issue of population regulation is very sensitive, government cannot fold its arms until the country’s population becomes uncontrollable.

Jonathan fires NNPC GMD, three executive directors

 

In what he described as an attempt to “further strengthen the ongoing reforms and transformation of Nigeria’s Petroleum sector, and in furtherance of efforts to achieve greater transparency and accountability in government”, President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday night sacked the Austin Oniwon led executive management team of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and three group executive directors.


Oniwon was asked to go on compulsory retirement.

Global Peace Index has recently released a report on global ranking of countries according to their dangerousness, a dozen African countries are among the most affected by war, terrorism and political instability.


Since 2007, the Global Peace Index, conducted by the Research Institute of Economics & Peace, class 153 countries of the safest most dangerous. Countries affected by civil wars for years, or face regular violence, are part of the top 10 African countries most dangerous.

Majek Fashek gets N15million recording deal



The reggae superstar, who is a shadow of his old self, has just signed a N15 million recording deal with a Nigerian based record label called A Plus Recording and Award company. The deal will last for two years and the record label has already started getting him gigs both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria. In fact Majek will embark on an international tour in July. Beyonce &Jay Z's daughter named honorary citizen Of Hvar, Croatia

Beyonce and Jay Z vacationed in Croatia last year when Beyonce was pregnant. While there, Beyonce was filmed in front of a tree in Hvar, an Island in the Adriatic Sea. In the video, which she later posted on her Tumblr, Beyonce said: "I think it's Blue Ivy, which would be appropriate"

Now, the mayor of the town is thanking the superstars for bringing media and tourism attention to the town. He said tourism has dramatically increased since their visit, The mayor wrote a letter to Bey and Jay Z saying:
The story of the origin of your girl's name, Blue Ivy, has brought huge media attention and great tourism promotion to the town of Hvar. I have decided to grant your daughter the status of honorary citizen of the town.

Nigerian breaks academic record at John Hopkins University

 
A 22 year old Nigerian has emerged the best graduating student of John Hopkins University in the US. Emmanuel Ohuabunwa from Arochukwu, Abia State obtained a Grade Point Average of 3.98 out of a possible 4.0 to earn a degree in Neurosciences. Emmanuel is the first black man to make this Grade in the university.

For his efforts, he has won a scholarship to Yale University to pursue a degree in medicine. He has also been inducted into Phi Beta Kappa Society, a prestigious honour group that features membership of 17 US Presidents, 37 US Supreme Court Justices, and 136 Nobel Prize winners. (Punch)

Fela Anikulapo Kuti's residence to be turned to a museum

 

The one-storey building Fela built and lived until his death on August 2, 1997, will be turned to a museum.
The house, located at 18, Gbemisola Str., Ikeja, which is also the late Afro beat legend's final resting ground, will be called Kalakuta Museum and is scheduled for opening in October this year during the annual Felabrations event.

James Ibori's mistress Udoamaka Onuigbo released from prison

James Ibori's mistress Udoamaka Onuigbo has been released from a UK prison after serving only two years of her 5 year sentence. Ms Onuigbo was found guilty on a three-count charge of money laundering in June 2010 and was sentenced to five years in prison by Judge Christopher Hardy of a Southwark London Crown Court.

She was released from prison last week and has returned to Nigeria. I guess in the UK 5 means 2? Ibori himself was sentenced to 13 years, so I guess he'll be out in say...6 years

Woman arrested for calling ex-hubby a Boko Haram member on FB

23-year old mother of one has been arrested by policemen from Ipaja Police Station, Lagos State, Southwest Nigeria, for calling her ex-husband a member of the Boko Haram sect on Facebook, the social interaction site on internet.

The suspect, Afolakemi Mojisola Adeniyi, was arrested following a complaint lodged at the station by her former husband, Alfa Umar Gobir, that his ex-wife posted his picture on facebook and tagged him a member of the Boko Haram.

All expatriate pilots and crew of Dana Air leave Nigeria

All the expatriate pilots and co-pilots working for the embattled Dana Air have all left Nigeria. 6 Captains, 13 co-pilots and 3 female pilots tendered their resignation to the Airline company and have relocated to their respective countries. The fatal June 3rd crash was said to have affected their desire to continue working in Nigeria.

The death of Captain Peter Waxton, the pilot who flew the crashed plane, also affected the other expatriates. Captain Waxton was not only the most experienced pilot, he was also the highest paid amongst the pilots of Dana Air.

The co-pilot of the Dana crash Indian Mike Mehandra had a six year old son and a pregnant wife due to deliver in August.
