Breaking news-ASUP calls off Strike

National Executive Council (NEC) of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended their strike action which began on April 29.

News filtering in states that the strike which has kept student off school has been called off. ASUP president, Mr. Chibuzor Asumogba had yesterday revealed that the committee will meet today to check the progress of the civil action.The lecturers' decision follows the meeting they had with the federal lawmakers and ministers last week, after which they said the National Executive Committee of ASUP would meet to review the government's offer...

How Rev. Fr. Francis Chidiebele Okoye, a Catholic priest was BUTCHERED IN CHURCH

As the anniversary of the gruesome murder of Rev. Fr. Francis Chidiebele Okoye, a Catholic priest attached to St Mary's CatholicChurch, in Afikpo, Ebonyi State holds on july 31 Some of the questions in the minds of the parishioners and the general public remains who killed him and why?
Fr. Okoye was slaughtered like a sacrificial lamb in the premises of the Church on July 31, 2006. The priest, who hailed from Enugwu Ukwu, in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State and shared an apartment within the Church premises with a fellow priest, was dragged out of his bedroom by his assailants, who took him to the back of the building and slashed his throat.
A source said he was decapitated. "It was a shocking act of violence. It was a gory sight. There was no doubt that Father Chidiebele's attackers came with the intention of killing him outright. They butchered an innocent man like an animal. He was almost beheaded. This is the height of wickedness and man's inhumanity to man," one of the members of the church stated.

Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Friday took on Prof. Wole Soyinka, for attributing the crisis in the Rivers House of Assembly to her.
In a statement by her spokesman, Ayo Osinlu, the President's wife said Soyinka betrayed the moral duty that is expected of him, as a respected member of the society, to carefully consider all shades of issues that informed his opinions on any matter.
Mrs. Jonathan said Soyinka had become an embarrassment to his admirers with his diatribe against her.
The statement read in part, "Unfortunately, Soyinka betrayed moral duty in his recent diatribe against Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
"Of course, this would not be the first time he would reach out against the First Lady, usuallyfrom self-righteously indignant lecterns.

Mum stabbs her eight month old baby 90 times

Eight months old Xiao Bao was stabbed 90 times in the face with scissors by his mother for biting her while she was breastfeeding him. The strange incident that has left many people shocked happened in Xuzhou, in the eastern China Jiangsu province. After the attack, the mother disappeared leaving the infant in a pool of his blood in the yard of their home. Xiao was found by his uncle who rushed him to the hospital. The baby needed more than 100 stitches. The mother, who has since been arrested, is not known to be suffering any kindof mental illness.

FG signs cease fire agreement with boko haram

The Federal Government has announced signing of ceasefire deal with Jama'atu Ahlul Sunnah Lidda'awati wal Jihad, popularly known as Boko Haram.
The cease fire agreement came on the eve of the Muslim Holy month which commenced on Tuesday through out the country.

Family of four crushed to death in edo

Tanker crushes father, mother, two kids to death in Edo

  A family of four has been crushed to death by a tanker at Egba junction along the Benin-Auchi express road.
 
Witnesses said the family consisted of the father, mother and two children.The tanker was said to have fallen on the Honda car they were travelling in and killed all the occupants.

Its content, suspected to be fuel spilled on the road and the first car that attempted to drive through the crash went up in flames killing the driver.The accident caused traffic gridlock along the express road.
 
Officials of the fire service were called to prevent spread of the fire. Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Kenneth Nwaegbe said one person has been found dead. He said the fire was yet to be put out.

New World Record-Over 300 Thausand Nigerian students brush at the same time

The  pupils  set the Guinness World Record by brushing their teeth simultaneously for one minute across 326 locations in the state.The previous record of 177, 003 was set by India in 2007.

Doctors advice Mandela's family to unplug his life support machine


Doctors treating Nelson Mandela said he was in a “permanent vegetative state” and advised his family to turn off his life support machine a week ago, according to court documents obtained by AFP Thursday.

“He is in a permanent vegetative state and is assisted in breathing by a life support machine,” said the court filing dated June 26.“The Mandela family have been advised by the medical practitioners that his life support machine should be switched off.“Rather than prolonging his suffering, the Mandela family is exploring this option as a very real probability,” read a filing from the family’s lawyer, relating to a dispute over the final resting place of Mandela’s three children.Since the document was written, the government, family members and people visiting Mandela have reported his condition has improved.

Egypt gets new leader

The top judge of Egypt’s Constitutional Court, Adly Mahmud Mansour, has been sworn in as interim leader, hours after the army ousted President Mohammed Morsi and put him under house arrest.

Mr. Mansour said fresh elections were “the only way” forward, but gave no indication of when they would be held.

Mr. Morsi, Egypt’s first freely elected leader, is under house arrest after what he says was a military coup.

The army said he had “failed to meet the demands of the people.”

Rivers Government comes to the aid of OJB,Approves the 15M

The Rivers state governor, Rotimi Amaechi has come to the aid of ailing music producer, Okungbowa Jezreel Babatunde aka OJB who is currently battling with kidney problem.

The governor has promised to support OJB with fifteen million naira (N15M) needed for the kidney transplant.

Head of the OJB fund raising committee , NoMoreloss confirmed it via his twitter handle. “Officials of the government reached out to us this evening, (Wednesday, June 3) promising to donate a $100,000. The presentation, they say, will be made on Friday (June 5). We are indeed grateful to the Governor and the people of Rivers State. Now we can finally have that surgical procedure.”

THE Edo State Police Command, yesterday, paraded 26 suspected criminals including a pastor identified as Philips Ogbebor, alleged to have had carnal knowledge of a 20-year-old male member of his church (names withheld).

After the act, the pastor allegedly threatened to kill his victim if he disclosed the act to the public.
Speaking to Vanguard, Pastor Ogbebor simply said: “God will judge, go and talk to others” and kept on mumbling.
 
But his victim narrated his ordeal: “I told him I have never done this since I grew up, but he insisted. It was painful and I told him I will not allow it again. So after the second attempt, I told him I will expose the act. He then administered an oath on me, saying if I ever told any one, I will die.

Egypt Military removes President Mursi


Egypt’s military has removed the country’s first democratically elected President,  Mohamed Mursi, Wednesday night after he failed to meet demands to share power with opponents, who thronged the streets of Cairo, state-run media reported

Troops moved into key positions around the capital and surrounded a demonstration by Mursi’s supporters in a Cairo suburb as a 48-hour ultimatum from the generals expired.
 
Citing an unnamed presidential source, the state-run newspaper, Al-Ahram, reported that “the General Command of the Armed Forces told President Mursi around 7pm.  that he is no longer a president for the republic.”

Bishop Rapes Teen in Rivers State

Chairman of All Bishops in Rivers State, Bishop Chibuike Nwabueze, who was arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year old girl, was paraded, yesterday.
The Bishop, who confessed to the crime before newsmen claimed he was hypnotised.
He said: "We have different Colleges of Bishops. I am the Chairman of Communion of Bishops in Rivers State. Well, what actually happened was a set up. It was set-up by my enemies. The man who is in-charge of where I went to minister is my enemy. He is the person that set me up.
"He invited me to his church for a programme and afer the programme, he set me up because of what we are dragging. We are dragging the chairmanship of the communion and that was why he set me up. But to my greatest surprise, on the said day and after I had prayed for her, the girl started  pulling off her clothes and  before you knew it, I had carnal knowledge of her."
