BREAKING NEWS: Court stops FG from renaming UNILAG

 

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday granted an interim order restraining the Federal Government from renaming the University of Lagos.


Justice Stephen Adah, who granted the order, was ruling in the suits brought against the May 29, 2012 renaming of the institution by the students and alumni.

Kaduna unrest: Students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria evacuated


 
Following reports through text messages that churches in Kaduna might be attacked on Sunday. many people (christains especially) remained indoors and worshipped at home.
Also, there were indications that some state governments had sent luxury buses to evacuate their students from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, just as more security operatives were being deployed in Kaduna.

North, Reps forced Jonathan to sack Azazi, Defence Minister — Investigation

 
Immense pressure from the North and the House of Representatives forced President Goodluck Jonathan to sack his former National Security Adviser, Gen. Owoye Azazi (retd) and Minister of Defence, Dr. Haliru Bello on Friday.


According to Investigations, Jonathan removed Azazi, who also hails from Bayelsa State like him, in order to appease power brokers in the northern part of the country and angry members of the lower chamber of the National Assembly.

Blast outside Abuja nightclub after security chiefs’ sack



ABUJA (AFP) – A blast went off outside a nightclub in the capital city Abuja hours after the national security adviser and defence minister were sacked amid fears over spiralling violence in the country’s north.


No casualties were reported in the explosion late Friday. Windows in the nightclub, a bank and a barber shop were shattered and a number of cars were damaged.

Kaduna residents flee in numbers

 

The exodus of residents of Kaduna state on friday, followed the relaxation of the 24-hour curfew imposed on the state as a result of the current outbreak of violence in which many people were killed.



The state governor, Patrick Yakowa, had on Thursday in a statewide broadcast relaxed the 24-hour curfew by four hours to allow Muslims to observe their Friday prayers.
