2yr old boy 'plays' on 100ft balcony ledge for over five minutes

 
A toddler came within inches of plummeting 100 feet to his death after climbing on to a high-rise flat balcony as his mother slept inside. 

Dramatic footage showed the two-year-old crawling along, and sitting on, the balcony's ledge eight storeys up, while horrified passers-by looked on.

One terrified onlooker was so concerned that she filmed the boy nonchalantly peering down and dangling his legs over the drop.

The police in Lagos have arrested a 57-year-old man Badeogun Ogunbisi who allegedly defiles under aged girls in his vicinity

He was allegedly caught by his wife, Afusat Ogunbisi, while having carnal knowledge of an 11-year old pupil, whom he allegedly cast a spell upon while on errand for her mother.

The father of three, two girls and a boy, who resides at Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria, was arrested and detained at Alagolo police station, Ipaja.

ICC places Nigeria under watch over Boko Haram violence

The International Criminal Court has placed Nigeria under watch over the violent attacks of the Boko Haram sect in parts of Northern Nigeria.

ICC Chief Prosecutor, Mrs. Fatou Bensounda, told journalists at the State House, Abuja on Tuesday, after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan, that the court had placed Nigeria under “preliminary examination” as a result of the violence.

She also said the attacks may be described as “crimes against humanity.” Bensouda, however, noted that the ICC was watching to see how the Nigerian government would handle the Boko Haram issue. (Punch)

President Jonathan commissions bullet-proof vest factory in Kaduna

 
The president commissioned a bullet-proof vest production factory at the Defence Industry Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) yesterday in Kaduna. 

The factory will produce bullet-proof vests and other textile wares for the Nigerian Armed Forces and other security agencies in the country.

Air Nigeria to return four aircraft to the owners

 
All the troubles of Air Nigeria. First they are being sued by the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) for tax evasion totaling N5 billion, then the Nigerian Civil Aviation (NCAA) suspended their license for financial distress, now the company, GE Capital Aviation Services, that leased them four of their aircraft want their planes back because of Air Nigeria's inability to pay the company.

Spokesman to Air Nigeria, Samuel Ogbogoro said: 
Subsequent to the temporary suspension of Air Nigeria’s regional and domestic flight operations by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), our lessor has been requesting to repossess some of the aircraft in our fleet and we are fully cooperating to return them. Air Nigeria plans to acquire state-of-the-art aircraft to fill the reduction in capacity. We are currently finalising plans to resume normal flight operations across the regional and domestic routes as soon as possible," he said.

Footballer Emmanuel Emenike has street named after him after splashing N500m on properties

The extremely wealthy 24 year old footballer who plays for Super Eagles of Nigeria and Russian club, Sparta Moscow, a few weeks back had a street named after him in an estate in Lekki, Lagos. Emmanuel Emenike Street is located inside Chevy View Estate where the footballer has properties said to be worth over 500 million naira. Footballers Obinna Nsofor and Mikel Obi also have properties in the posh estate.

NUC suspends operational licences of seven private universities



 
National Universities Commission 0n Wednesday July 4th suspended the operational licenses of seven private universities in Nigeria  for allegedly violating NUC's guideline's on school facilities and academic programmes

The suspended universities are Lead City University, Caritas University, Joseph Ayo Babalola University, Tansian University, Madonna University, Achievers University and Obong University.

The NUC say the suspension will be lifted as soon as the Universities live up to the guidelines stipulated by the commission in the running of Universities in Nigeria.

NYSC reschedules camp activities in volatile states

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, on thursday announced the rescheduling of the posting of all corps members deployed to Yobe and Borno States for the 2012 Batch ‘B’ Orientation Course.

A statement by the Director General of NYSC, Brig-Gen Nnamdi Okore-Affia, directed that corps members posted to some volatile states in the North such as Bauchi, Gombe, Plateau, Kano and Kaduna, but have not yet reported to the camp, should immediately report to the NYSC Directorate Headquarters, Abuja for redeployment.

NDLEA Boss blames drug use for Boko haram Menace

The Director-General of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mr. Femi Ajayi, on Thursday attributed the activities of suicide bombers and terrorist groups to the use of illicit of drugs.The DG said this at the public presentation of three books on drug abuse prevention in Lagos, written by an officer of the NDLEA, Dr. Martin Agwogie.Ajayi said, “No normal human being, who will happily die in an explosion save under the influence of narcotics.
“Death in itself is dreaded even though it is a necessary end, but when people subscribe to it happily through bombing, killing innocent lives and creating havoc and ruin, you know it is not normal.
“The impact of drug abuse is far more damaging than some people assume because it is related to violent crimes. A man under the influence of drugs is as deadly and unpredictable as a mad man playing with a time bomb.”
