Emir of Fika escapes death in bomb attack

The Emir of Fika, Yobe State, was almost killed today when a suicide bomber targeted the Potiskum Central where he went for Friday prayers.

Dr Muhammed Idrissa escaped unharmed after the Emir's police orderly stopped a young man who was trying to get too close to the emir. The young man had explosives trapped to his body.

Unfortunately the police orderly wasn't so lucky. He died with the suicide bomber when the bomb eventually exploded. Many others were also injured in the incident.

40 yrs old Man arrested for bein with a goat


A 40-year-old man, Victor Nnanna Onyemaechi from Amibo village in Umuahia South Council of Abia State was a while ago arrested by the state’s police command for allegedly bein with a neighbour’s goat. It was learnt that the man was tied to the goat and paraded round the village before he was handed over to the police by the traditional ruler of Amibo community.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Udevioti Ezekiel, confirmed the incident, adding that the suspects has been charged to court under Section 214 Subsection 2 of the Criminal Code.

Late DIG replaced, 8 new AIGs

           
ABUJA – The Police Service Commission, yesterday, announced the appointment of a new Deputy Inspector-General of Police to fill the void created by the death of late DIG in charge of Operations, Haruna John, who died early this year in a helicopter crash in Jos, Plateau State.
The new DIG is Mr. Philemon Leha, former Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone I, Kano.

Gunmen bombs police station,killing many in Gombe

KANO (AFP) – Gunmen suspected to be members of Islamist Boko Haram sect late Wednesday launched simultaneous attacks on two police posts in the northern city of Gombe killing a number of people, residents said.
The attackers, who came around 8.30 pm (1930 GMT), threw explosives at a police post in central Gombe and opened fire on the policemen, a resident said.

Nigeria to borrow in other to finance 2012 budget - Presidency


The Presidency on Wednesday explained why it was becoming difficult to fully implement the 2012 budget.
It said apart from the fact that some ministries, departments and agencies were having capacity problems, government was also going to source for money through loan to implement the budget.

Chinese diver Wu Minxia's celebrations at winning a third Olympic gold medal were cut short after her family revealed the details of a devastating secret they had kept for several years.
Wu's parents decided to withhold news of both the death of her grandparents and of her mother's long battle with breast cancer until after she won the 3-meter springboard in London so as to not interfere with her diving career.
"It was essential to tell this white lie," said her father Wu Yuming.

The Joint Task Force (JTF) in Borno, Operation Restore Order yesterday made a great interception as eight rocket launchers other equipment of mass destruction were recovered from the dreaded Boko Haram sect.

Explosives found in university lecture hall in Kano

KANO (AFP) – An explosive device was found on Tuesday in lecture hall at a university in northern city just before students arrived for an examination, an official said.
The device planted in the lecture theatre at the Federal College of Education (FCE) in Kano was discovered by a campus security guard and dismantled before causing any damage.

MONEY MATTER: Pregnant lady swallows 51 wraps of cocaine

THERE couldn’t have been a  much more suitable adjective to describe the action of a middle-aged woman who threw caution to the winds and swallowed an astonishing 51 wraps of cocaine for  inexcusable reason of poverty than to describe it as ‘suicide’.
The 38 year-old woman from Oduma in Enugu State who resides in Brazil gave her name as Mbechi Obiageli Susan. She was arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on her way from Sao Paulo, Brazil, by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, with the aid of a scanning machine.
