Timipre sylva,s properties seized by the EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, released a statement yesterday saying they have seized 48 properties belonging to the former Governor of Bayelsa state, Mr. Timipre Sylva who is being prosecuted at a Federal High Court in Abuja for alleged misappropriation of N6.46 billion state funds when he was governor of the state.

EFCC said:
"Assets belonging to the former governor against which a forfeiture order was obtained by the EFCC include a mansion at 3 River Niger Street, plot 3192 Cadastral zone AO, Maitama District Abuja; nine units (comprising six one bedroom and 3 two bedroom apartments) at 8 Sefadu Street Wuse zone 2, plot 262 Cadastral zone AO2, Wuse Abuja; 2 units duplexes at 5 Oguta Street, plot 906 Cadastral zone Wuse 11 Abuja.

"Others are a duplex at Plot 1271 Nike Street Cadastral zone AO5, Maitama District Abuja; a duplex at Phase 1 Unit No. 1 (Villa 1) Palm Springs Gold Estate, Cachez Turkey Projects Limited, Mpape, Abuja; 10 units of one room apartments at 8 Mistrata Street plot 232 Cadastral zone Wuse 11 Abuja; 5 units duplexes at Plot No 1070 Dakibiyu District Cadastral zone B10, Abuja; 16 units service apartments at Plot 1181 Thaba Tseka Crescent, Off IBB Way, Wuse 11, Abuja and 3 units of three bedroom flats at No. 1 Mubi Close, Plot 766. Cadastral Zone A01, Garki, Abuja. The commission, which also attached photographs of some of the properties, said the interim forfeiture order to attach Sylva's properties was granted by Justice A. R Mohammed on December 28, 2012.

But Sylva in a counter statement yesterday said none of the houses seized by EFCC are his. Below is his statement

Our attention has been drawn to a statement purportedly issued by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), announcing the seizure of a number of property alleged to be owed by Chief Timipre Sylva, former Bayelsa State Governor.

1.  The claims by the EFCC are completely misleading. Not surprisingly, this style is in line with EFCC's known bully-boy tactics and media hysteria.

2. The houses in question do not belong to Sylva.

3.   Sylva's property are intact, and fully covered by the order validly issued by Justice M.M. Kolo of the Abuja High Court on 27 December 2012. Sylva had applied to the court for "an interim order of court for the service of the originating process on the respondent to serve as a stay of all actions in respect of the properties - plot no 262, Cadastral Zone A02, Wuse 1, District, Abuja, plot 3192, located within Cadastral zone A06 Maitama District, Abuja, plot 232, Cadastral Zone A07, (No. 8 Mistrata Street; Wuse II, Abuja) - by the respondents, their agents, privies, representative or any other person deriving his/her authority from them; either by sealing off, confiscating, ejecting any person from the properties, trespassing into the properties or doing any other thing how ever so described relating to the said properties pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice."  This application was granted and hearing in the matter is fixed for 04 January 2013.

4. Justice A.R. Mohammed never granted any temporary asset forfeiture order to the EFCC on 21 December 2012. Rather he directed EFCC to put Sylva on notice and the substantive matter is fixed for 10 January 2013.

5. EFCC as a creation of the law cannot be seen to be acting lawlessly, and with impunity.

No 60billion naire phones for Farmers...Agriculture minister

Press statement from the Minister of Agriculture, Dr Akinwumi Adesina
My attention has been drawn to the issue of 60 Billion Naira to be spent on phones for farmers, reported in some media sites and papers. The information is absolutely incorrect. My Permanent Secretary was totally misquoted out of context. There is no 60 Billion Naira for phones anywhere. As a responsible Minister, who takes public accountability and probity very seriously, there is absolutely no way in the world that I will even contemplate or approve such an expenditure. All our focus as Government is on creating jobs in Nigeria, not exporting jobs elsewhere.

Their traditional wedding will hold in Nigeria, maybe Abuja and the white wedding might hold outside the country. I heard 'exotic Caribbean Island', maybe Barbados. Their wedding IVs will be going out soon!

Veezee Reacts to Chris Brown Hook up

I'm sure some of you heard that Chris Brown supposedly hooked up with a video vixen while in Nigeria last weekend for his concert. The lady in the centre of the story is popular video vixen and model, Venita Akpofure, popularly known as Veezee baybeh (second from left). She spoke to me exclusively this evening about the speculation that went viral on Social media. Below is what she said
I didn't have any sexual contact with Chris Brown. We all hung out after the show because we have mutual friends. I actually went with Wizkid who's cool with Chris. It's not abnormal for models/vixens to meet artists in the line of work that I do. I didn't really speak with him, just hello and goodbye. It was cool to meet him and he was polite enough to take a photo with us. We hung out with him after the show and I left for home to go and prepare for Christmas. It was nothing scandalous like what is being implied.

Thausands of Pro-Gun Supporters in US wants Piers Morgan Deported

Pro-Gun activists in the US want outspoken CNN host and British national, Piers Morgan, deported from the country following anti-gun comments he made in the wake of the Newtown tragedy.

Close to 70, 000 people have signed the petition demanding that Piers be deported immediately because according to them 'He is engaged in a hostile attack against the U.S. Constitution by targeting the Second Amendment. And also for his effort to undermine the Bill of Rights and for exploiting his position as a national network television host to stage attacks against the rights of American citizens.'

Fortunately for Piers, millions of Americans are behind him and support the ban of assault weapons.

Nigeriams Criticise President Goodluck for Xmas Message

Our president came under serious criticism from Nigerians after he posted his Christmas message on his Facebook page yesterday. See what he wrote below...
I want to seize this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance. I feel the pains of Nigerians and that is why this Yuletide I have personally instructed that our roads be worked on to enable you and your loved ones to travel safely for the holidays. Not done, we ensured that for the first time in decades, the cross country services (Lagos to Kano with stops in cities along the route) of the Nigerian Railway Corporation  were revived just prior to the holidays to provide Nigerian masses with an inexpensive alternative to road and air transportation.

Christ the reason for this season

*For to us a child is born, to us a son is given—Isaiah 9: 6

WE are in that special season once again, a season of joy, of peace, of great tidings. A season when we celebrate the birth of Christ the King, the redeemer of mankind! Jesus is the reason for the season.
What does Christmas mean to you and me? I will like to draw reference from the views of two writers. The first is J. C Penney who wrote, 'Christmas is not just a time for festivity and merry making. It is more than that. It is a time for the contemplation of eternal things. The Christmas spirit is a spirit of giving and forgiving.'
Next is the thought provoking words of George F. McDougall 'Christmas means a spirit of love, a time when the love of God and the love of our fellow men should prevail over all hatred and bitterness, a time when our thoughts and deeds and the spirit of our lives manifest the presence of God

Obafemi Martins Getting ready to marry Ballotellis sister

It's no longer news that the ace Nigerian footballer is in a sizzling relationship with Mario Balotelli's elder sister, Abigail Barwuash. Obafemi has been discreetly dating the Ghanaian lady, who he met in Spain a while back, for many months now. The lovers recently flew private jet to a remote Island in Europe for a romantic holiday before Obafemi flew home to Nigeria for Christmas.

People close to the very private Levente FC of Spain striker say he's very serious with Abigail and that's why he's no longer hiding his relationship with her unlike previous relationships. They say he may be considering marriage.

Meanwhile, he's organizing a charity event tomorrow in Lagos. The charity is for new mothers and their babies. He will make donations and also pay the bills for the mothers who can't afford it themselves. It's happening at a maternity hospital in Lagos Island by 10:30 in the morning
