Rivers Gov Ban Keke Napep


The ban of tricycles has sparked off angry reactions from residents of port harcourt who see the ban as insensitive on the part of government.

RIVERS State Government yestherday banned tricycles,better known as Keke Napep,in Port Harcourt, the state capital and adjoining communities.

The ban in Port Harcourt City Local Government Area also extends to Obio/Akpor, Oyigbo and Eleme areas.
Controller-General of Rivers State Road Traffic Management Authority, TIMA-RIV, Mr. Nelson Jaja, who made the announcement, said it was to check the spate of traffic offences by the tricycle riders.

He said: "We have banned Keke operators in Port Harcourt metropolis to checkmate their criminal activities and reduce the traffic challenges posed by their activities. We don't want to see them in prohibited areas henceforth."

Nelson Mandela Recovering Well


Nelson Mandela is getting "much better" and responding satisfactorily to treatment for pneumonia, the South African presidency said on Wednesday, a week after the frail anti-apartheid icon was hospitalised.

The charismatic 94-year-old is steadily improving and doctors are happy with his progress, President Jacob Zuma's office said in a statement.

"His doctors say he continues to respond satisfactorily to treatment and is much better now than he was when he was admitted to hospital on the 27th of March 2013," it said.

"He has been visited by family and continues to make steady progress."

No details were given in the short statement on a possible release from the undisclosed hospital where he is being treated.

Federal Government to scrap NECO,cancels UTME


Federal Government has concluded arrangements to scrap the National Examination Council. Plans have also been concluded to cancel the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination being conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board for applicants into the nation's tertiary institutions.
JAMB will however not be scrapped.
The government's decisions, which would be made public soon via a White Paper, are based on the recommendations of the Stephen Oronsaye-led Presidential Committee on the Rationalisation and Restructuring of Federal Government Parastatals, Commissions and Agencies.A government source said that upon receipt of the latest report, President Goodluck Jonathan has been meeting with Vice-President Namadi Sambo and a few top government officials to take final decisions on it.

Super Eagles Captain Yobo-i won't beg to Play for Eagles


Yobo, who spoke to Sports Radio 88.9 Brila FM on Tuesday, lamented the way he was shut out despite being the captain of the team, saying it was disrespectful. He also alleged that one of the assistant coaches to Keshi has made the national team quite uncomfortable for him.

Yobo was not called up for the game against Kenya in Calabar a fortnight ago and said he was not informed as he had expected.
 
He said, "I don't know what happened. I felt we were celebrating the African cup together and working together. But since winning the cup, nobody has spoken to me. Keshi has never called me, so I just focused on my club career.

107 Year Old Single Woman Seeks First Husband


Wang Guiying was born in southern Guizhou province, the child of a salt merchant. She grew up watching her uncles and other men scold and beat their wives and this made her fear marriage.after Wang's father, mother and older sister died, she still shied away from marriage and moved to the countryside where she survived as a farmer until she was 74 years old and no longer strong enough to work in the fields.
Now Wang has decided that it's time to forget the past and take the bull by the horns, so to speak. She told the press that she hopes to find a fellow centenarian so they will have something to talk about.
She came to her decision because she was worried that she had become a burden to her aging nieces and nephews, especially since she was forced to stop helping with household chores since breaking her leg when she was 102.
"My nephews and nieces are getting older and their children are already tied up with their own families and I am becoming more and more of a burden. I'm already 107 and I still haven't gotten married. What will happen if I don't hurry up and find a husband?"

Nigerians Should Blame Goodluck for insecurity-Buhari


Former military head of State Gen Buhari has blamed President Goodluck Jonathan's administration for the poor handling of the insurgency that had taken more lives and properties than necessary in Nigeria.
 
He said the problem of insecurity was not peculiar to the North alone, adding that there was no difference between the Boko Haram sect in the North and the militants in the South-South.
 
The CPC presidential candidate in the 2011 general elections spoke on the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, when he visited its headquarters in London on Monday.
 
He said, "The problem of terrorism is not confined to the North alone. Insecurity generally should be blamed on the Federal Government.

NSCDC Finally Removes "my oga at the top" Mr Shem


NSCDC has finally replaced their Lagos State Commandant Mr Obafaiye Shem aka "My Oga at The Top".he was replaced by Mr Adesuyi Clement from Oyo State Command.
The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Olu Abolurin,who was in Lagos weekend over the alleged killing of two of his officers by some policemen, introduced the new Commandant to journalists.

However, he did not give reasons for Obafaye's removal but sources hinted that it may not be unconnected with his recent interview on Channels Television live programme.

Before now, authorities of NSCDC have denied taking any disciplinary action against Mr. Shem over the said interview.their reaction followed claims that Shem had been sacked on the orders of the Minister of Interior, who supervises the NSCDC.

ARSENAL have revealed reasons they scrapped plans to play a friendly match in Nigeria in July.
Arsene Wenger's side were set to play the African state's national team, after cancelling a trip last year.

The Gunners pledged to honour an agreement to play the match this July and even sent star players Tomas Rosicky, Bacary Sagna, Per Mertesacker and Lukas Podolski to Nigeria to help publicise the encounter.

At the time of the previous postponement, Arsenal marketing director Angus Kinnear said: "We are making plans for a visit next summer." But with escalating terrorism attacks from Islamist group Boko Haram, the club have decided not to make the journey.instead,they will tour Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam.

Team Nigeria had trailed Egypt on the table after three days of competition, but an outbreak of success in the final day of activity saw the juniors winning most of the gold on offer, much to the appreciation of the near capacity crowd at the Warri Township Stadium.

'Dead' prostitute wakes up on the way to the morgue


A prostitute in Zimbabwe 'died' during a hotel romp with a client - only to come back to life as her body was being put in a coffin. The vice girl reportedly collapsed during a sex session last week at the Manor Hotel in Bulaweyo. Convinced she was dead, her shocked client called the police - who sent paramedics to collect the body. 

But as they were loading the 'corpse' into a metal coffin, the hooker suddenly woke up screaming.

Police Arrests Two-Month Old Girl


This happened in Ogun State.its bizarre but true.a two-month -old girl was arrested and paraded in place of her father who was suspected to be a dare-devil robber.the mother was taken into custody along the toddler identified as Oyinkansola.Policemen stormed the residence of the alleged armed robber, Ismail Adeosun, at Ago-Ika in Abeokuta North local government area and, because they could not find the suspect, they arrested every body available.
